ARC Awards Future Fellowship to Dr Patrick Dunlop to Study AI in Recruitment
Congratulations to SOBA member Dr Patrick Dunlop from the Future of Work Institute at Curtin University, who has been awarded an Australian Research Council (ARC) Future Fellowship.
Dr Dunlop has received $1,310,786 in funding over four years for his project, Recalibrating Staffing Assessment Practices for the Age of Generative AI, which will investigate how generative artificial intelligence (AI) is reshaping job assessment and recruitment practices across Australia.
Through this research, Dr Dunlop will examine how job applicants’ use of AI, alongside employers’ efforts to adapt to this use, affects the efficacy of staffing assessments and employment equity. He will also explore how the growing use of AI in the workplace is shifting the core characteristics that define top talent and what this means for modern selection practices.
In doing so, the project will generate new theoretical insights into job applicant behaviour and empirical evidence of the traits predicting work performance in AI-augmented environments—providing a contemporary evidence base to help Australian job seekers, employers, and policymakers navigate the changing role of AI in hiring.
We congratulate Patrick on securing this major research milestone and look forward to the insights that will emerge over the course of his fellowship.
